Fuck off IMDb
A long time ago I stopped using Rotten Tomatoes. I stopped because the site had lost its integrity and trust. It's because one of those sites which is paid by outside sources and they are used to influence the movie viewers. I switched to IMDb.
Today I deleted my IMDb account. I was tired of them deleting my negative reviews of movies. I realized that they are nothing more than a paid site which is used to advertise movies and push false reviews out on to the public. You might have noticed their move reviews for movies which just were released? Movie reviews from accounts which have only one or two reviews, both of them 10/10, and both movies from the same production company or distributor. Reviews that read like a robot wrote them.
I had been with IMDb since their start. My account was several thousand reviews, which I know isn't as much as some of the more prolific reviewers of ten or fifteen thousand posts. I was working my way up there doing a few reviews a week, but I calculated that I had seen well over fifteen thousand movies. I just do not have that much free time on my hands to post that many reviews.
IMDb is not about art of cinema. They are about profit. When a service like this switches over to profit, then the clarity is gone. The trust disappears. They have no soul. They have sold their selves to the demons.
I thought about posting reviews on blogs, but again, I don't have that much time and I'm done with movie reviews. Hollywood puts out mostly junk these days. Before I deleted my account, most of my reviews (around 84%) of them were 3 stars or less. I barely had 5% of the movies above 8 stars and less than 1% of the movies were 10 stars.
The review which pissed me off, the one which was deleted, was Stranger Things. I was reviewing some of my posts and cleaning them up as I had changed my format over the years. I went in to a few reviews and noticed they were missing. My 1 star rating was still there but the reviews were deleted. I went to my email account and sure enough, there it was, my review in black and white. I copied the review and then pasted it again, but then I found another deleted review. And then another. And then another.
These were all 1 star reviews of course. They didn't deleted my reviews which were higher.
When you run a website like this, where you bully the user and delete their reviews, you violate a trust with the user. The reason I say this is because they never notify you that they deleted it. They do it secretly because how many people go back and look at their reviews? They most likely figure that no one would ever know. So they deleted X amount of negative reviews so that people who are looking at the reviews don't see the negative responses. They manipulate the viewer ratings. They increase traffic for a paying customer.
I know IMDb doesn't give a shit about me. In fact, now that I deleted my account, plenty of those crappy movies which paid good money for false reviews are now up a few fractions of a percent on their ratings.
So, IMDb can go fuck off.
